Around Poetry is a Detroit based publication supporting the works of artists domestic and international, both visual and text-based. By focusing on artist and community funded editions, we aim to provide a publication that will remain free for both the reader and contributors alike, and in doing so simultaneously embrace accessibility and freedom in multiple contexts.
While Around creates a space for artists to present what they wish to present, or present what they wish to re-present,we occasionally encourage a specific idea or concern with our editions to help foster divergent sensibilities and perspectives stemming from an individual baseline. Our quest is one to be different together, and together witness diversified unity. We recognize change is changing at all changing times. Through language - seek, stop, find, lose, go, end, begin, laugh, destroy, sublate, affirm, that, this, then, there, what, do, who.(?)
Even though the greatest boon a poet grants the world is to reveal that secret and sacred presence... for the poet there are no ideas but in things." - William Carlos Williams Paterson (1927)
Once again, the print publication is free, and always will be. Let us engage our present conditions mindful of culture, influence, politics, and society. Let us endlessly pursue the extending horizon opening before us with a powerful step, grasping each confounding thought and each inarticulately perfect word as our own and each others. Let us bring it all in, and push it all out.
Past publications can be found under the editions tab, or in print (in limited quantities) at various locations in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Ferndale.
